“For me, it’s time spent laughing with my friends & family, sitting on the beach & smelling the salty sea, and going on long walks that make me want to grab a paint brush and put my day on a blank canvas.”
— Patty Burkart
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Patty is a North Carolina based artist who is inspired by the coastal region and enjoys bringing life to a blank canvas and watching how each color leans into the next, always creating a story. Her medium of choice is a watered down acrylic that always finds a way of dripping south of her subject, but she thinks this is when the painting begins to develop character and meaning.
Patty received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art with a concentration in Graphic Design, from Salem College, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Since then, she has worked as a graphic artist, an assistant teacher to students with special needs, and, with the support of her family, she is now a full time artist. Most of her pieces are influenced by the North Carolina coast, but she enjoys a wide range of subject matter - from capturing a child’s belly rolls as they sit on a beach to the stillness of a marsh. She also enjoys watercolor and has painted many homes and storefronts. With each carefully measured line, these particular paintings pull her back into a more structured art form.
Today, she calls Huntersville, NC and Topsail, NC her home.
